silvassa weekend gateway near mumbai

silvassa is the capital of  union territory of dadra & nagar haveli, a small and beautiful city situated between two states gujarat and maharashtra on the foothill of western ghats on one side and arabian sea on the others. silvassa was ruled by portuguese got independence on 2nd august 1954 and merged with union of India in the year 1961.

HOW TO REACH :- silvassa is just 180 km from mumbai you can drive over NH8 it takes approx 3.30 hrs to silvassa or you can catch trains, nearest stations are bhilad and vapi only few trains stopped at bhilad whereas many  mail/exp train has hault at vapi station. vapi to silvassa is 18 km and bhilad to silvassa is 14 km. you can get rikshaw for Rs 35/per person on sharing basis from vapi  or for special auto you have to pay Rs 150 to Rs 180. Surat to silvassa is 140 km and daman to silvassa is 30 km.

WHERE TO STAY :- In silvassa you can get plenty of options from luxary resorts to budget hotels. you can get accomodation from high to mid range as per your budget.

CLIMATE :- summers are hot and humid here temperature is ranging from 26 to 40 degrees,  where as mansoons are full of rains you can enjoy mansoons , but december and january are the best months to visit silvassa.

SIGHTSEEING :- on the way to silvassa from vapi you can visit vanganga garden also know as dadra garden . it is just few km before silvassa this garden is a  beautiful garden surrounded by artificial manmade pictureque lake. you can enjoy boating which is very cheap.

NOTE :- Entry fee is Rs 20/per person. you can enjoy 30 Min self operated peddle boating  by just paying  Rs 90 for 2 adults + 2 child and for groups Rs 140 for 4 adults + 2 child . garden timing is 11 am to 8 pm monday closed.

TRIBAL MUSEUM :- Is an another place of attraction for tourists which shows the culture of the local tribes. It is located in the heart of city i.e char rasta near collectrate. The main tribes are dhodia, konkana and varli . tarpa dance is the most popular dance amongs these tribes at the time of early harvesting .
NOTE :- Entry is free photography is prohibited inside the museum,  you can buy varli painting and handicrafts which are made by local tribes . museum timing is 9 Am to 1 Pm & 2 Pm to 5.30 Pm. Monday closed.

CHURCH OF OUR LADY OF PIETY  besides tribal museum is very calm and beautiful church build by portugues in 18 century is another attraction for tourists.

SWAMINARAYAN TEMPLE  is well maintained  and central located temple of bhagwan swaminarayan on bhilad silvassa road. One of most important features of the temple is its architecture.  The temple has ample  parking space , book stall and restorant for refreshment and a beautiful garden, on the bank of daman ganga river . The statues are very beautifully carved with real looking features.

NAKSHTRA VAN  On the bank of daman ganga river is resently added as a  new picnic spot in the list of tourism of  dadra & nagar haveli . it is just ajdsent to swaminarayan temple. There are various
types of species of flowers and other plants in this garden. Rain dance is the most favorite activity for children in this garden there are several places and benches in the garden where you can enjoy the evening and watch sunset near the bank of daman ganga river . close to nature and ample of parking space makes this garden perfect place for family picnic.
NOTE :- Entry & Parking  is free , dogs and pets are not allowed in this garden. Garden timing is 09.00 Am to 7.30 Pm . Food counter not available in the garden make sure to carry food and water . Tuesday closed.

VASONA LION SAFARI  Is 5 Km on silvassa - khanvel road . vasona lion safari is a part of wild life sanctuary of dadra & nagar haveli . The park has one pair of old asiatic lion and lioness which are lazy and inactive because of their age. but still children can enjoy safari on the caged mini bus provided by the safari.

NOTE :- The mini bus charges are  Rs 2m5 per person and  Rs 10 per child for 20 min ride . safari timing is  9 Am to  5 Pm monday closed . The park remain close from 15 june  to 1 october for maintanance during rainy session .

MADHUBAN DAM  Is just few Km away from lion safari you can see the daman ganga resiviour . The doors of the dam are mostly open in the mansoons .

this dam photos are taken during summer when water is short but you can see the dam full of water during mansoon and winters.

SATMALIA DEER PARK Is near vasona lion safari on the silvassa khanvel main road . The park has various species of deer it is a part of  wild life sanctury of dadra & nagar haveli. The park has various spots where you can enjoy the scinery you can also get view of madhuban dam from the park . there is one machan from where you can get entire view of the park near the machan there is one beautiful pond where you can see deer , there are several benches where you can sit and enjoy the bird watching deer park should be  must see place in your list if you visit silvassa.

NOTE :- Park timing is 7 Am - 11 Am in the morning and 3 Pm - 6 Pm in the evening . there is one jipsy and one mini bus for the tour of park charges are Rs 25 per presons and Rs 10 per child  so 1 jipsy or mini bus can go at a time  for 1 Hr ride of park . park is closed on monday. park remain closed from 15 june to 1 st october for maintainance during mansoon.

DUDHANI AND KAUNCHA are the places for which silvassa is famous for kauncha is very beautiful village on the silvassa - khanvel- dudhani road it is about 40 Km from silvassa. You can see the daman ganga reservior and the western ghats outskirts, there are several island on the daman ganga reservior which look very beautiful you can enjoy shikara boating and reach those islands which are small villages in this madhuban dam reservior . The route to dudhani is up and down and full of sceneric views of nature and forest which is very adventurous  where you can enjoy driving if you drive through your own car . Dudhani is 20 Km from khanvel and few km from kauncha . In dudhani you can enjoy shikara boating and water sports.  kauncha & dudhani are the perfect places where you can relax from the daily hectic and busy city life . kauncha & dudhani should be must see places in your list if you visit silvassa.

TRAVEL TIPS :-  1 >For one day trip to silvassa try to reach early morning before 10 Am , Then head over direct to satmalia deer park see above the park timing spend the evening at kauncha and dudhani and enjoy shikara boating at dudhani.

2 >For two days trip to silvassa try to reach early morning before 10 Am ,see dadra garden first in the morning visit tribal museum and church of our lady of piety . rest at your hotel or resort in the afternoon visit swaminarayan temple and nakshatra van in the evening .
day 2 : visit vasona lion safari and madhuban dam in the morning head over to satmalia deer park see the park timing above if you are late skip lion safari and madhuban dam satmalia deep park is must see spot . spend evening in kauncha and dudhani end of trip.
